Report on the Event
Despite a cold & wintery day – and the sidelining of regulars Ian Duncan and Marque Le Maistre’s cars - our club once again turned out in force to compete in July’s Round 3 of the MSCASA Supersprint at Mallala. (We fielded a total of 7 MX-5s.)
Despite being without his MX-5, Ian Duncan had an enjoyable day coming to terms with and competing in his mechanic’s turbocharged (350kw at the rear wheels) Nissan Skyline. A real handful and quite a challenge when compared to his MX-5 !!
Father & son - Rob & Blake Jones - have acquired (ex club member) Don Richards’ turbocharged NB SE MX-5. With two cars entered, they are now being referred to as “Team Jones”. Blake is a real talent and his first outing in the new car showed that he is going to be a force to be reckoned with in future events.
Motorsport attracts younger Club members and it was great to welcome new member Lewin Day to his second event. We look forward to seeing him compete in future events.
It’s extremely pleasing to see the emergence of a number of father/ son teams within our Club. It augers well – not only for the obvious benefits for the families concerned, but also for the future of our club and for motorsport in general. There are now three father & son teams in the MX-5 group. Garren Harrell (who’s recently purchased an additional NB MX-5 for son Christopher to drive), Ian Duncan with son Andrew and Rob Jones with son Blake.
